The VCF Mestalla couldn’t continue their good form as hosts in 2025 and fell to Atlético Baleares in a match decided by a penalty. Despite the loss, Miguel Ángel Angulo expressed confidence in the team’s growth in the final stretch of the regular season.
The match was tightly contested, with both teams aiming not to lose. While we took more risks in the second half with the 0-1 scoreline, we had the best chances in the first half. It was a game of few opportunities against a solid defensive team like Atlético Baleares, known for their low goal concession and few away defeats. We had to take the initiative without exposing ourselves too much.
Although we controlled significant portions of the game, the difference came down to efficiency in both boxes. A single mistake, the penalty, cost us, while our missed chances in attack were punished by our opponents.
Both teams, fighting for promotion, showcased their tactical plans – one more conservative, waiting for mistakes, and the other trying to dictate play. It was a match where both sides aimed for victory.
To compete at that level, efficiency in both boxes is crucial, especially against such opponents. It’s a learning process for our young players, experiencing these situations to improve. It’s disappointing as we hoped to climb the table with a win, but we must focus on the next game against Torrent, another tough rival.
