On Sunday morning, the VCF Mestalla played against SD Ibiza in the 30th round of the Segunda Federación Group III. The match, held at the Antonio Puchades stadium, ended in a 1-2 defeat as the filial team succumbed to a very effective SD Ibiza. Despite pulling one back through Otorbi and pushing for an equalizer in the final minutes, they were unsuccessful.
Under the leadership of Miguel Angel Angulo, the team remains just one point away from the promotion zone.
The Valencia CF reserve team was eager to secure a victory at home to climb up the standings. They faced a strong SD Ibiza side that had won 5 out of their last 6 matches.
In the opening minutes, VCF Mestalla had two clear chances. The first one came from a through ball by Borja to Mario Domínguez, but the defense blocked his shot just in time. Later, Hamza Bellari made a solo run from the right, only to see his effort saved by the Ibiza goalkeeper. The Balearic team also had an opportunity with a header that was denied by Vicent Abril hitting the crossbar.

A forced substitution was made by VCF Mestalla due to an injury to Iker Córdoba, with Santana coming on. Despite dominating the game, the filial team struggled to break down a defensive SD Ibiza side that resorted to fouling to thwart their attacks. Ibiza capitalized on a counterattack to take the lead through Pochettino’s goal.

The final minutes of the first half saw VCF Mestalla in control, even with Mario Domínguez playing through discomfort. They pinned SD Ibiza back, who defended with a compact backline of six. There was a penalty shout for a clear foul on Álex Cerdá during one of the attacks.
At the start of the second half, Miguel Ángel Angulo made a double substitution, one forced by Domínguez’s injury, introducing Warren Madrigal and Pablo López. The second half began with high intensity as VCF Mestalla created several dangerous chances and won multiple corners.

Despite their dominance, VCF Mestalla failed to convert their chances, and SD Ibiza extended their lead with a superb individual goal from Riquelme. However, the Valencia reserves responded immediately with Otorbi scoring from a swift counter, assisted by Borja to beat José Perales with a low shot.

The goal spurred VCF Mestalla on, as they pushed for the equalizer and bombarded the SD Ibiza goal, but they couldn’t find the crucial goal that would have reflected their efforts on the field.
The next fixture for VCF Mestalla is on Sunday, April 13th, at 18:00, away to Lleida CF.
