- The initiative is carried out within the agreement between the Local Council of Valencia and the Port Authority for the activation of the fire in the Service Area of the Port of Valencia
- The aim of the agreement is to ensure the most effective response to the prevention and cessation of fires in the water and land areas in the port area
The Local Management Council approved on Friday the specific training plan for 2025 of the personnel of the fire, prevention, emergency, and civil protection section (DBPIEPC) within the agreement between the city of Valencia and the Port Authority. This is a new edition of the Fire Prevention and Disappearance Agreement in the Service Area of the Port of Valencia signed between the city of Valencia and the Port Authority.
The municipal spokesperson and fire protection councilor, Juan Carlos Caballero, explained that this initiative implies the request, for the fourth consecutive year, of the provisions of the Agreement signed with the Port Authority in August 2021, to act in the prevention and disappearance of fire of the matter in Valencia in the Valencia Port Service Area, with a term of 4 years.
The purpose of the agreement is to establish the collaboration bases between the Municipal Council and the Port Authority to ensure, in the water and land areas in the port service area of Valencia, the most efficient and appropriate fire response. As indicated in the Council Agreement, the main objectives of the Agreement are two: to ensure the configuration of DBPIEPC as a team or intervention group when the self-protection plan of the Port of Valencia is activated. And to establish mechanisms that promote the knowledge of port facilities and activities, the training of human teams, as well as the adaptation of material means in the intervention.
The agreement emphasized the commitment of the Municipal Council to train the operational personnel of the fire, prevention, emergency, and civil protection section of Valencia (DBPIEPC) «in those actions of their service catalog that can be offered in the port of Valencia» as stated in the text of the agreement. These are «training courses that concern fire, prevention and intervention personnel in emergency situations, as well as the personnel of the Port Authority and operators installed in the port service area of Valencia».
In turn, the Port Authority contributes an amount of 150,000 euros to complete the courses of this year (the same amount as each rental, except the first one, which was 180,000 euros). It is also responsible for the purchase and maintenance of specific material means, as well as the maintenance of boats and equipment of the Aquatic Rescue Group (GRA) and the height rescue group, among other aspects, necessary for the development of courses.
As councilor Juan Carlos Caballero explains, at the end of the local board meeting, to ensure maximum coordination and collaboration between the parties, the agreement includes the creation of a commission responsible for the administration, monitoring, interpretation, and control of the Agreement, with functions to assess the convenience. And also to schedule and evaluate action exercises.
