The worker of the 112 emergency services in the Valencian Community, Amparo López, has stated to the judge in charge of the investigation of the dana incident that the information gathered by the 112 phone operators «is impossible not to reach the organizations integrated into the emergency itself.»
López made these statements on Wednesday to the media outside the València Justice City after testifying before the judge of the Court of First Instance and Investigation Number 3 of Catarroja, who is investigating the management of the dana on October 29th. She detailed that the judge asked her how the 112 phone system works, how they gather information, and whether it is possible for that information not to be transferred.
«It is impossible for the information gathered by the 112 phone operators not to be transferred. It is impossible for it not to reach the organizations within the protocols because we all use the same communication system,» she asserted.
When questioned by journalists about why it is «impossible» for the information not to reach its destination, the employee emphasized that all organizations integrated into the same communication system share the information.
She specified that their «main» task is to gather information about «what emergency is happening and where it is taking place in order to transfer it to the organizations that need to respond.» «And those organizations are integrated into our communication system. Our role is to be as fast and agile as possible so that those in danger can be assisted,» she emphasized.
«The information gathered by the 112 phone operators is impossible not to reach the organizations integrated into the emergency itself. Impossible,» she insisted, while pointing out that one of these organizations is the Generalitat Emergency Services and another is the Valencia Fire Consortium, among others.
López reiterated that the 112 employees transfer the emergency information «to those who need to respond or make decisions to know what they need to do.»
These statements before the judge come after, in March, the former regional secretary of Emergencies of the Valencian Generalitat, Emilio Argüeso, –who has been called as a suspect by the judge conducting the investigation into the management of the dana on October 29th– stated in a motion filed in court that on the day of the tragic incident, the 112 «did not send any communication» to the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (Cecopi).
«FLOOD OF CALLS»
The worker added that, in her testimony before the judge, she stated that there was a «flood of calls» at the 112, which was already «significant» since the morning of October 29th, and she added that for the employees «it is very important to be able to answer calls as they come in.»
«As soon as there is a call diversion, I mean a time when someone has to wait, for us, something important is happening outside. We are a perfect thermometer of what is happening on the streets,» she maintained.
López explained that the judge also asked her about her day on the 29th and indicated that she had «information about what was happening, like any other citizen.» «I took personal measures because I saw that the amount of water had to fall somewhere and continue its course somewhere,» she concluded.
