The councilwoman for Integration and Social Welfare, Marta Torrado, attended the inauguration of the new headquarters of Casa Perú in València on Thursday, «a space – as explained by the councilwoman – that symbolizes the culmination of almost five years of collective effort, voluntary work, and commitment to social cohesion and the integration of the Peruvian migrant community in València.» The initiative has the full support of the City Council, which has wanted to collaborate with the collective by providing the premises through the municipal company AUMSA.
Marta Torrado addressed the migrant community, assuring them: «You finally have a home, and it is a home with open doors,» and emphasized that this new headquarters «will be a bridge to other associations, such as, for example, the Volunteering Platform.» The councilwoman for Social Services celebrated the coordination between the City Council and the Generalitat, and recalled that «as the closest administration, we want you to feel that we are by your side.»
Torrado highlighted Valencia’s character as a welcoming city and thanked the Peruvian community for choosing this city to start a new life: «As councilwoman, I want to thank you for choosing our city to start your new life project; we welcome you with open arms and I am sure that many projects will emerge from this house that will further enhance the name of Casa Perú, the name of Peru, València, and the Valencian Community.»
On her part, the president of Casa Perú Valencia, Janeth Riveros, stated that this new headquarters «is the tangible result of a dream,» and emphasized that «it has not been an easy path, but every obstacle has turned into a lesson.» Riveros argued that «with determination, bridges can be created where there was once emptiness,» and stressed that these bridges must be based «on respect for our roots and love for Valencian culture, with the aim of making this new headquarters an open window for València.»
The inauguration of Casa Perú was attended by members of public administrations, representatives of various social entities and the volunteer team, as well as members of the Board of Directors of Casa Perú València. The opening ceremony included an exhibition of typical costumes from different regions of Peru and music.
