Ecoembes, together with the Conselleria de Medio Ambiente, Agua, Infraestructuras y Territorio, the Federación Española de Municipios y Provincias (FEMP), and nine municipalities from all over Spain, has donated 44 containers –22 blue and 22 yellow– to municipalities affected by the dana on October 29th.
With this initiative, more than ten municipalities and eight districts have received over 1,400 yellow and blue containers, which «have replaced the furniture losses where neighbors deposited their waste,» as stated by the organization in a press release.
After months of work among all the entities involved in this initiative, the municipalities of Albal, Catarroja, Massanassa, Sedaví, Torrent, Beniparrell, Algemesí, Picassent, and other localities belonging to the Consorcio Valencia Interior, as well as the districts Faitanar, La Torre, El Forn d’Alcedo, Castellar-L’Oliveral, Pinedo, El Palmar, El Saler, and El Perellonet, are already receiving the containers donated by Ávila, Almoradí, Xátiva, Talavera de la Reina, Daganzo, Leganés, Pamplona, Novelda, and Serranillos del Valle.
As a symbolic act, a container delivery was carried out this Monday, attended by Ecoembes’ specialist in the Valencian Community, Sonia Poveda, and the Director General of Quality and Environmental Education, Jorge Blanco. Also present were the mayor of Massanassa and provincial deputy of Waste Management, Francisco Comes, and municipal representatives from the municipalities of Catarroja and Albal.
Poveda highlighted that «since we became aware of this tragedy, we never stopped thinking about how we could help all those affected.» «We quickly launched this initiative, which required the involvement of many stakeholders, to help restore normalcy, even through packaging recycling,» she emphasized.
On his part, Blanco emphasized «the collaboration of the different administrations and entities that have made this initiative possible.» «The Generalitat promoted this plan with the aim of replacing essential waste management infrastructures such as containers,» he added.
«SOLIDARITY AND SUPPORT»
Comes, on behalf of the beneficiary localities, expressed his «most sincere gratitude» to Ecoembes, to the Conselleria de Medioambiente, to the FEMP, and to the nine municipalities from all over Spain that «have made possible the donation of 44 containers for recycling and waste management in the municipality.»
This gesture not only reinforces the commitment to sustainability and environmental care but also demonstrates, once again, the solidarity and support towards the populations affected by the dana. Thank you for being by our side,» he stressed.
Ecoembes has stated that «many» of the containers donated in this initiative are reused units that have undergone a reconditioning process to «guarantee their proper functioning and allow them to have a second useful life.»
Thanks to this circular process, these containers can be reused and contribute to the recovery of basic services in the municipalities affected by the dana, helping their residents to gradually return to normalcy,» concluded the organization.
