“We knew it was a game to persist, to repeat, to try to win, and we truly deserved the three points,” said Miguel Ángel Angulo, the VCF Mestalla coach.
«We were up against a good opponent, one of the best away teams in the group who had only lost 3 games away from home, so we knew we had to bring out the best in ourselves to overcome a direct rival,” he added.
The Asturian coach highlighted the team’s ability to adapt to a challenging game. “The match started with nervousness and anxiety on our part as we wanted to reach their goal, and we were somewhat imprecise. We were dominating, but we needed to get into the box and create danger, which we did more in the second half, and then we had to be vigilant at the back.”
The victory allows the team to achieve the first of their objectives, reaching the points historically needed for permanence in Segunda Federación and now setting higher goals.
«We have achieved the goal we set to reach 44 points by March, surpassing it by reaching 46 points, and now we will set even more ambitious goals. We will discuss this with the players on Monday, but we are ambitious and want more. Having avoided relegation, we will now aim to be among the top five,” he stated.
There are 6 games left, 18 points up for grabs, to conclude the regular phase of the competition in this Group III of Segunda Federación. «This will be battle after battle, trying to accumulate three points, keep a clean sheet, and rely on the talent we have in the final third. The league is very tight, with very few points separating the third and eighth positions. There are many direct confrontations, and the changes in the standings will be constant.»
The key will be to maintain the spirit shown by the team in 2025, but also to keep it in check. «The boys are ambitious and want to move forward, and sometimes I have to rein them in a bit and not lose sight of our goals and maintain humility, respecting our opponents,” Angulo concluded.
