• Technovation Girls aims to promote innovation and STEM vocations, especially in girls
- The Board of Governors approves a grant of 15,000 euros for the development of activities during 2025
- More than 2,500 girls have already participated in this program since its arrival in the Valencian Community in 2018
The Local Government Board (JGL) has approved authorizing the Valencian Community Foundation for Strategic Promotion, Development, and Urban Innovation to grant a subsidy of 15,000 euros to the company Talent Growth Management, Business & People, OE (TGMbp OE). This aid, granted through the signing of a collaboration agreement, aims to develop the VIII edition of the open innovation program (STEM) «Technovation Girls Valencian Community» in Valencia.
Technovation Girls is an international-level technological entrepreneurship contest for girls, whose main objective is to promote innovation and STEM vocations, especially in girls, to address the lack of female professionals in these sectors. It belongs to the American non-profit association «Technovation» and is supported by organizations such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Google. The program, which emerged in 2008, focuses on technology, entrepreneurship, and communication.
In 2025, the 18th edition and the 8th organized by Talent Growth Management, Business & People, OE (TGMbp OE), in the Valencian Community will take place, where more than 2,500 girls have already participated in the program.
This grant is intended for the realization of the activities necessary for the proper execution of ‘Technovation Girls’ in its 2025 edition. Specifically, it includes organizing and managing dissemination events at the Valencia Innovation Capital facilities; defining social or city challenges for this year; recruiting, managing, and training mentors who accompany the training sessions of the regional embassy; and providing specific support to mentors and teams in the technological area by professionals.
It also involves the availability of professionals to help teams with market research and project improvement; monthly mailing with information on actions and added values for the teams; constant dissemination on social networks and media; organizing and managing the final event, which includes a project fair, jury selection, and evaluation rooms; institutional awards ceremony, including the Valencia Innovation Capital Awards – Dana Challenges for 2025.
The grant awarded will be compatible with any other grants, aid, income, or resources for the same purpose as long as the sum of the contributions received does not exceed the total cost of the subsidized activity.
Dana Solutions Challenge
Since 2010, more than 34,000 girls from over 100 countries have participated in Technovation Girls by creating applications to solve community problems. On this occasion, the Valencian City Council and Valencia Innovation Capital collaborate by providing the challenge of finding solutions to the aftermath of the Dana that occurred on October 29, 2024.
Thus, projects that provide the best solutions will be recognized, and to make it easier, the challenge has been divided into four areas: Mobility (How can we move around the city after the Dana?), Health and Well-being (How can we help people feel better, access doctors, or find emotional support?), Children and Elderly (How can we ensure they are safe, well cared for, and able to continue learning and having fun?), and Learning (Ideas to teach people to protect themselves, be better prepared in the future, and help others).
The competition challenges young people aged 8 to 18 to create a mobile application or an artificial intelligence device that solves a social problem, providing solutions to the inhabitants of municipalities affected by the flood, conducting the corresponding market research, marketing plan, business plan, and presenting it to a jury.
Students learn to code, build an app, and discover how to market it with the support of a mentor, and they submit what they build to the global competition.
Calendar
The program runs from October to September each year. During October to December 2024, the program was promoted to attract participants; in January 2025, the program was launched, and from February to April, team formation, challenge selection, and application development with mentor support took place.
This month will see the finalization of proposals and their presentation, and on the upcoming Saturday, May 31, the regional final gala will be held at the Universitat Politècnica de València with the awards ceremony.
In addition, from June to July, nominations for national and international awards will be presented, and in September, the year will close, especially if there is an international winning team. For more information, visit the program’s website at www.technovation.tgmbp.com.
