The Llibre Verd de València. Guide to Sustainable Urban Growth, edited by the Fundació València Clima i Energia of the Valencia City Council, has been recognized with three awards in the 55th edition of the LAUS Awards for Graphic Design and Visual Communication, held on Thursday night, June 19, in Barcelona. The publication has been awarded a LAUS Bronze in the Best Book category and two Inbook awards in the Contribution and Book Cover categories.

The LAUS Awards, organized by the Graphic Designers and Art Directors Association of FAD (ADG-FAD), are one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world. They are held annually in Barcelona and recognize excellence in graphic design, visual communication, digital creativity, and editorial projects, with a jury composed of international professionals of reference. Their aim is to highlight the value of design as a driver of social, cultural, and business transformation.

In this context, the recognition of the Llibre Verd highlights not only its strategic content—as a legacy document of the European Green Capital 2024—but also its aesthetic, conceptual, and environmental commitment. The book was conceived as a practical guide to good sustainable urban policies, written by the technical team of the Fundació València Clima i Energia, and brings together local proposals with European projection to address the major climate challenges from cities.

Orange peel and recycled algae

The publication has been produced by Studio Fase, responsible for the design and editorial direction, and features original illustrations by the renowned artist Paco Roca, author of the award-winning comic Arrugas. The project has paid attention to every detail: from printing on recycled paper with citrus waste to reducing inks (only black and Pantone Verde València), and using an innovative biomaterial for the cover, made from orange peel and algae by the Valencian laboratory Sirope Lab, located in Alboraya.

Edition for collectors in Valencian, Spanish, and English

With a limited edition of 200 numbered copies, the book is published in three languages—Valencian, Spanish, and English—and has been conceived as a reference piece, a working document for professionals and public administrations, and a collectible item that reflects Valencia’s commitment to design, sustainability, and local identity.

The Councilor for Climate Improvement and Energy Efficiency, Carlos Mundina, highlighted the value of this recognition: “These awards are an endorsement of Valencian creative talent and Valencia’s commitment to a sustainable, sensitive city model projected to the world. The Llibre Verd symbolizes our willingness to do things right, with a vision for the future and with our own way of understanding the relationship between progress, design, and territory. It is a sustainable book that speaks of sustainability”.

With this triple award, the Llibre Verd de València consolidates its position as a reference in sustainable editorial design and reaffirms Valencia’s role as an innovative city committed to European values of sustainability and visual culture.
