- The City Council is implementing a plan in the ‘superblock’ area to make parking easier for residents, while also including blue zones to avoid harming the local commerce and hospitality sector
The City Council of València has already designed how the parking area in the vicinity of the so-called ‘superblock’ of La Petxina will be. The aim of this municipal action is to provide parking areas for the neighborhood residents, as has been done in other districts of the city, without reducing the possibility for visitors to park, as is the case in other areas where designated parking spaces for residents remain empty most of the time. The plan will now be implemented and has already been presented to the neighborhood association for them to be informed about the new organization in the area.
After conducting relevant studies, the proposed solution is to remove free parking spaces and establish a regulation system that ensures a supply of spaces for residents while maintaining a percentage of rotation spaces to meet the demand from non-residents. This will help meet the short and medium-term parking needs of the various commercial activities in the neighborhood.
While an initial proposal from the City Council suggested 654 spaces in the blue zone and 1,392 spaces in the orange zone, after a meeting with the neighborhood association, it was decided to increase the orange zone in some of the more residential streets. As a result, the final distribution will have 1,419 spaces in the orange zone and 627 spaces in the blue zone. The latter will be concentrated in peripheral streets and those that form the main mobility axes of the neighborhood, aiming to avoid traffic generated by the search for empty spaces and, at the same time, allow parking for those visiting the neighborhood to access its commercial and hospitality areas.
«With this plan, we respond to the needs of the residents in the area who will have parking spaces, while also providing a solution to the businesses and hospitality establishments in the area that also require parking spaces for visitors,» explained the Mobility Councilor, Jesús Carbonell.
Orange Zone
The 1,419 spaces in the orange zone will be located on the streets Doctor Zamenhof, Sant Jacint, Azcárraga, Palleter, Sant Ignasi de Loiola, Jesús i Maria, Literat Gabriel Miró, Pare Rico, Calixt III, González Martí, Mestre Guerrero, plaza Horticultor Corset, Santa Maria Micaela, Martí l’Humà, Pintor Vila Prades, Villanueva i Gascons, and Gran Vía Ferran el Catòlic (numbers 83 and 71).
In the orange zone, parking is allowed for non-residents in a rotation mode with hourly control, meaning on weekdays between 9 am and 7 pm from Monday to Friday, and from 9 am to 3 pm on Saturdays. Outside of these hours, parking is only permitted for residents who have the distinctive mark and have paid the corresponding tax.
Blue Zone
Furthermore, the number of rotation spaces in the blue zone has been increased to 627 and will be located on Paseo de la Petxina, Terol Street, Nord Street, Quart Street, Sant Josep de la Muntanya Street, Joan Llorenç Street, and Gran Vía Ferran el Catòlic (numbers 53, 55, 57, 61, and 63).
The rotation parking zone (blue zone) will continue to operate with the same schedule as it currently does: weekdays (Monday to Saturday) from 9 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 8 pm. Outside of these hours, parking is free.
Loading and Unloading, PRM, and Motorcycles
Regarding the 65 loading and unloading spaces, marked as such, these will be exclusively for residents once the loading and unloading schedule ends. Additionally, the 45 spaces for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM) and the 349 unregulated free-use spaces for motorcycles remain unchanged.
Requirements to Benefit from the Parking Zone
It is important to note that individuals applying for accreditation must be registered in one of the streets belonging to the La Petxina neighborhood, prove to be the owner of the vehicle’s circulation permit or the person driving the vehicle whose circulation permit is registered under a legal entity, and individuals listed as regular drivers on the vehicle’s insurance can also apply.
In addition to this, they must be up to date with payment of municipal taxes and fees, as well as any traffic fines for violations committed on public roads in the municipality of València, and the vehicle’s tax address as registered in the corresponding record of the General Directorate of Traffic must be València.
The application to obtain the resident distinctive mark can be made at any time and will be valid for 2 calendar years, including the year in which it is requested and the following year until December 31st. The procedure to request the resident distinctive mark, when the process is opened, can be done either through the entry registry or via the electronic headquarters (City Council website, accessing municipal procedures, in the mobility section, circulation authorization, and reservation — obtaining the resident distinctive mark).
