- The Animal Welfare Board, Juan Carlos Caballero, stated that the goal is to «encourage and raise awareness about the benefits of adopting an animal»
- In December 2024, adoptions at the Benimàmet center increased by 3% compared to the same month in 2023
The Valencia Municipal Council, through the animal welfare delegation, launches the awareness campaign, «adopt happiness, change my life,» to encourage the reception of animals in the city. With the aim of «raising awareness about the benefits of adopting an animal and contributing to reducing the number of homeless animals,» this municipal campaign will be active on Mupis and social media from tomorrow, February 10 until March 2.
As explained by the animal welfare advisor, Juan Carlos Caballero, adopting from a shelter or rescue offers great advantages. «On one hand, for the animal, as it offers a second chance to have the love and kindness of a home and a family that cares for it, and on the other hand, for the person who adopts, because the animal enriches the emotional life for people, helps combat unwanted loneliness, and reduces stress and anxiety levels,» he said.
It also helps to generate social and environmental awareness. «By adopting instead of buying, you save the lives of abandoned animals and promote a more ethical society,» Caballero said.
Additionally, the advisor noted that in December 2024, the Animal Reception Center in Benimàmet produced 64 adoptions, «which represents a small 3% increase compared to the same month in 2023, where 62 adoptions were made. Happy, but we know we cannot let our guard down on this issue, and we will continue to carry out campaigns that promote adoption.»
The Benimàmet municipal center has a 2,000 square meter plot for animals to run and play outdoors, but from the animal welfare office, municipal facilities will continue to improve, to adapt them to the new animal welfare law.
