The mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, participated in Ancounter with a representation of the nominated Valencian candidates for the Goya Awards 2025, ahead of the Gala that took place on Saturday, February 8th, at the Congress and Exhibition Palace in Granada.
Catalá, accompanied by the councilor of culture, José Luis Moreno, described the 13 Valencian nominations received at the Goya Awards 2025, of which 7 are attributed to professionals born or based in Valencia, as a «testament to the vibrant cultural panorama.» He congratulated all the nominees «for their talent, art, and creativity, as they are an honor and pride for Valencia and also our best flag.»
Therefore, the mayor emphasized that from the Municipal Council, «we reaffirm our commitment to supporting and promoting our local talents. The Goya 2025 nominations are a showcase of the artistic potential of our city.»
In particular, the mayor met with Ana Collado, Ángela Reig, Irina Sánchez, Javier Castañeda, José Sepúlveda, and Rosa del Toro-Rufat, Araceli Isaac Delso, and Sofía López from «La Casa,» nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Valencian Nominations
In the 39th edition of the Goya Awards, Valencian professionals and productions received 13 nominations. In the category of Best Film, Castellón producer Fernando Bovaira is nominated for «The Blue Star,» and Valencian María Ténor, director of «Rock Bottom,» for Best Animated Film. Also in this category are «Buffalo Kids,» produced by Toni Novella, and «Superkalus,» co-directed by Villajoyosa producer Andrea Sebastiá.
For Best Documentary, producers Pepe Andreu and Rafa Molés, along with director Elena López, are nominated for «The Brides of the South,» a production also nominated for Best Short Documentary in France. They are also producers of «Sunday Sunday,» nominated for Best Documentary Feature. Additionally, the well-known presenter and actor Arturo Valls is nominated for Best Fictional Short with «El Trono,» in his role as producer.
In the Best Screenplay category, director and writer Álex Montoya and writer Joana Martínez Ortueeta are nominated for «La Casa,» a film based on the novel by Paco Roca (Eisner 2020). In the acting category, Marina Guerola Eight and Óscar Se Fue are nominated for «¿Es el enemigo? Movie de Gila,» both making their debut in the film «Los Deboles,» produced by Valencian producer Miskant Manafationes.
Furthermore, Valencian producer María Zamora of Elástica Films produced the film «The Red Virgin,» nominated in eight categories, and «Salve Maria,» in two other categories. Lastly, Valencian composer Andreu Bataller competes for Best Original Music for the film «47» and «Ibiza. Locomy,» produced by Valencian Kiko Martínez and his production company Nadie es Perfecto, stands out in the Best Costume Design category.
