Ibáñez y Mas califican de «incomprensible» la salida de Més de Sumar

Accuse Més of «imposing a change in the relationship» in the Valencian coalition, «abandoning the need for consensus»

The spokespersons for Iniciativa-Compromís, Aitana Mas and Alberto Ibáñez, have sent a letter to the membership in which they describe as «incomprehensible» the upcoming departure of Més-Compromís from Sumar in Congress despite achieving «full autonomy» in meetings with the plurinational group. Therefore, faced with the «change in the relationship» within the Valencian coalition «imposed» by Més, which has «abandoned the need for consensus in decision-making», Iniciativa has called for an executive meeting this Wednesday to «address the consequences».

This was expressed in a letter to the membership, sent on Tuesday afternoon to the media, after Més Compromís’s congresswoman — the majority party in the Compromís coalition, along with Iniciativa and Els Verds — Águeda Micó, defended that her future move to the Mixto Group responds to her decision to make a «strong opposition» to the PSOE, something that she believed was not possible within Sumar, as it is a group that is part of the government and where the elements of oversight over the government in Congress were limited.

In this context, the spokespersons for Iniciativa have recalled that their party’s executive committee, on June 3, unanimously decided to continue working within the Sumar parliamentary group, with whom they ran in the last general elections, in what was «a plural platform representing the whole of the Valencian left.»

The spokespersons for Iniciativa believe that this «obliges them to work to maintain and expand alliances with other left-wing forces,» both in the Valencian Community and the rest of Spain, to «build a common front to face current challenges.»

They have stated that they do not understand Més’ decision to leave Sumar, as they claim to have achieved «full autonomy after several meetings with the different forces that make up the plurinational space, as well as absolute freedom for Compromís to vote in favor of Pedro Sánchez appearing before the dana investigation commission.»

«It is incomprehensible that Més uses an argument that does not correspond to reality to try to justify the rupture with, not only the Sumar group, but also with the consensus-based operating dynamics within the Compromís coalition,» they have argued.

In the same vein, they have added that Més «has imposed a change in the relationship» within the Valencian coalition, «abandoning the need for consensus in decision-making,» which has led them to convene an executive meeting of Iniciativa this Wednesday to «address the consequences.» Additionally, they have also raised the «need for the executive to convene a National Board in the coming days.»

PROPOSING MEASURES TO THE PSOE

The spokespersons for Iniciativa have shown their «commitment to a strong agenda against corruption, especially after learning about the recent scandals related to the last two PSOE organization secretaries.»

In this regard, they have stated that Iniciativa’s position is to «propose to the PSOE, from the plurinational left-wing space, a whole set of measures, outlined in a document, to be implemented in the State government in line with those promoted by the Botànic in 2015.»

«Measures that not only serve to combat corruption, but also to promote greater democratization of the State, facilitating more accessible and rigorous oversight and control mechanisms for citizens and political parties,» they emphasized.

Likewise, they have added that their agenda «also prioritizes progress in public integrity, the defense of social rights, access to housing, and the fight against climate denial.» These, they argue, are «the best tools to combat the rise of global fascism, especially in a context marked by the regressive policies of the government of Mazón and the far-right Vox party in the Valencian Community.»

«WORKING TO EXPAND PLURAL ALLIANCES»

«We understand that it is not a time to reduce our spaces or to close ourselves off in party patriotism, but to work to expand plural alliances among the left. Our goal is to offer hope, security, and ethics in these complex times, taking advantage of the remaining term to promote measures that benefit the social majority,» they emphasized.

In this regard, they have deemed it «urgent» to urge the PSOE to «regain the trust of the investiture partners, assuming responsibilities and implementing measures that guarantee the non-repetition of corrupt acts and the recovery of embezzled funds.»

«Only then can we ensure the continuity of a legislature that defends the interests of the people. We remain committed to building a greener, fairer, better future,» concluded Ibáñez and Mas.
