The Municipal Council, through the mobility department, strengthened the status of the «pedestrian streets» of ten urban roads in the Cabanyal-Canyamelar district to ensure the restriction on the presence of vehicles on them. This was announced by councilor Jesús Carbonell, who explained that, with this objective, the Mobility Service implemented a set of bollards on a total of ten pedestrian streets in the neighborhood to avoid unjustified vehicle traffic.
The action, coordinated with the fire and local police services, strengthens the character of these streets as spaces for pedestrian crossing, limited to vehicles of all kinds, to improve the mobility of citizens and promote neighborhood gatherings and pedestrian passage. These are the intersecting roads that connect Dr. Lluch Street with Queen Street. They are the streets of L’Elésia del Rosari, Teatros de Marina, Just Villa, Columbrets, D’Empar Guillem, Pescador, Carlos Ros, D’A como Espadà, Marina, and Guillot Vicent (Tio Bola).
In total, 38 bollards were distributed, which were installed only on one side of the streets, allowing the appropriate movement of vehicles, but maintaining access to flows and loading and unloading areas, in accordance with the mobility ordinance in this typology of roads.
Two types of bollards were installed: 25 fixed and 13 flexible (red elastomers), the latter exceeding only fire trucks. According to the installation standards stipulated by the TMA/2021 accessibility base for «conditions» and non-discrimination for the access and use of urban public spaces, they were placed at an appropriate distance from the facades, not less than 1.8 meters, and between the bollards themselves.
