- Councilor Marta Torrado highlights «the fact that the work carried out by the City Council to prevent drug addiction is a reference for professionals from different backgrounds and nationalities»
The Addiction Service of the City Council will train students from the master’s program in education and rehabilitation of addictive behaviors at the Faculty of Psychology of the Catholic University, who will participate in different programs and activities in the various areas of action of the Municipal Plan for Drug Addiction, which ranges from school, community, and family prevention to the proposal of leisure and free time initiatives.
The councilor explained that these practices are structured in two phases, a first phase lasting two weeks, where municipal staff transmit technical and theoretical information about the prevention programs carried out by the Addiction Service, and a second phase in which students visit and participate in the various addiction prevention programs and activities carried out by the service in the city of Valencia.
This collaboration between the City Council and the Catholic University is part of a collaboration agreement that will be in effect until the 2026-27 school year, under which other actions have been taken, such as strengthening the volunteer network coordinated by the City Council to help people affected by the recent storm, which was reinforced with students from the aforementioned academic institution. Specifically, social educators, occupational therapists, psychologists, and healthcare professionals carried out support tasks, providing essential products to elderly users of the Municipal Home Care Service.
