The City Council of València, through the General Directorate of People with Disabilities, collaborates in the realization of the event «Inclusive Education: The key role of occupational therapy and multidisciplinary collaboration», which will take place this Friday, June 27, from 9:00 to 14:15 at the auditorium of Espai Jove VLC on Campoamor Street.
As explained by the Director General of People with Disabilities, Javier Copoví, the objective of this event is «to present the results of the Program for the incorporation of occupational therapy in the educational environment and its implementation. In addition, important topics such as coordination between resources for comprehensive care or the present and future of inclusive education will be addressed, and the guide Occupational Therapy in the School Environment in the Valencian Community will be presented.»
This initiative, organized by the Official College of Occupational Therapists of the Valencian Community, is pioneering in València, as well as the aforementioned program in which it is framed and developed by the official college, through an agreement with the City Council, for the first time during this academic year in municipal centers.
Through this program, professionals are made available to municipal schools and nurseries to support the psycho-pedagogical cabinets both for intervention with students and for the analysis and diagnosis of the situation of students with special needs. They also collaborate by providing training to teaching staff to help them understand the difficulties of students and adapt the characteristics of their tasks, giving guidelines and suggestions to non-teaching staff and families, and in the adaptation of the school environment to facilitate educational inclusion in schools.
It is also the first time that an inclusive education project is applied to Secondary Education institutes where students from the three municipal schools are regularly enrolled, namely, IES Rascaña (attended by students from CEIP Benimaclet), IES Serpis (CEIP Professor Santiago Grisolía) and IES Malilla (CEIP Fernando de los Ríos).
Copoví pointed out that from the General Directorate of People with Disabilities and the Education Delegation of the City Council of València, projects are promoted and financed «to improve the lives of those who suffer from accessibility deficits daily, with the aim of achieving full inclusion in the city.»
The event is aimed at professionals, families, and other interested individuals, and will feature speakers with experience and high-ranking officials from public administrations. Registration is free and can be done through the following link.
