The councilor for Tourism, Innovation, and Investment Attraction, Paula Llobet, has traveled to the Colombian city of Medellín with the aim of strengthening international cooperation in innovation and entrepreneurship between both cities and their respective innovative ecosystems. This international mission, in which Startup València participates, is the result of the public-private collaboration that the València City Council is committed to.
Medellín has established itself as a reference in Latin America in the development of emerging companies, technology, and digital economy. According to the prestigious study by Start-Up Blink, it has been recognized as the ecosystem with the highest growth in innovation and entrepreneurship in South America in 2024.
As part of this institutional visit, the councilor has signed a collaboration agreement with the Secretary of Economic Development of Medellín, María Fernanda Galeano Rojo. This agreement represents the first international alliance of the city of València with the Latin American ecosystem in this area.
The councilor has explained that thanks to this agreement promoted by the municipal strategy València Innovation Capital, «both cities will benefit by being able to offer our entrepreneurs and startups new business opportunities, investment, and internationalization.»
She has also pointed out that this agreement «reinforces València’s commitment to internationalization and its positioning as a reference point in technology and innovation within the Latin American network of innovative cities. Our goal is to be the gateway to Europe for talent and investment from Latin America.»
This agreement will have an initial term of one year, extendable for up to four years, laying the foundations for long-term cooperation between València and Medellín in the field of innovation and economic development.
València Innovation Alliance
This collaboration with Medellín marks a milestone by becoming the first city to join the València Innovation Alliance, the international partnership program promoted by the City Council to globally project the València Innovation Capital strategy.
This platform aims to position València as an international reference in technological innovation and entrepreneurship, attract talent and investment, and establish solid connections between the Valencian ecosystem and other innovation hubs worldwide. The goal is to build a network with up to 20 cities in the coming years.
Strategic meetings
During this strategically valuable visit, the councilor will hold meetings with representatives of the Cooperation and Investment Agency, ACI Medellín, Ruta N Medellín, the nerve center of the city’s innovation ecosystem, and the Entrepreneurship Center «Ongoing» – EAFIT University, one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Colombia.
She will also meet with representatives of the Entrepreneurship and Acceleration Chamber- ANDI and Ventures Comfama / Corporate Venture Capital, one of the most important investment funds in Colombia.
