València Game City, in collaboration with València Innovation Capital, has launched the Municipal eSports Leagues, a pioneering initiative promoted by the City Council of València that is already mobilizing hundreds of young people in the different districts of the city. With the first competitions already underway, València solidifies its position as the ‘gamer’ capital of the Mediterranean. Over 500 young people between the ages of 14 and 35 are already competing representing their districts in titles such as ‘Rocket League’, ‘Fortnite’, ‘Mario Kart’, ‘Clash Royale’, ‘Brawl Stars’, and ‘EAFC 25’. The goal: to reach the grand final in person at the OWN Valencia festival, which will take place in June as the circuit’s closing event.
Four qualifying rounds
Until the final event, the circuit includes four qualifying rounds during the months of April, May, and June.
Two online, accessible from any point in the city.
Two in-person, to be held at the gaming center Ramboot, headquarters of València’s largest professional eSports club and one of the most emblematic spaces in the sector.
These phases will continue to accumulate points for the overall classification, ensuring the participation of emerging talents and strengthening the local competitive scene.
eSports in public spaces
In addition to the qualifiers, the leagues will also reach open spaces in the city with activities and exhibitions for all audiences. These urban events aim to bring video games and eSports to the public, reinforcing their cultural, educational, and social dimension.
A league for and by the districts
With a mixed and free format, the competition connects youth with values such as inclusion, teamwork, and creative use of technology. Participants compete representing their district, creating a sense of collective identity and belonging through the game.
In the words of Paula Llobet, Councilor for Tourism, Innovation, Technology, Digital Agenda, and Investment Attraction, «the Municipal eSports Leagues are an example of how innovation can transform youth leisure into a tool for participation, social cohesion, and digital talent. From the City Council, we want València to be a city that not only consumes technology but also leads it.»
València Game City: innovation with impact
The Municipal eSports Leagues are part of València Game City, the strategic program of València Innovation Capital to position the city as a reference hub in electronic sports, digital entertainment, and emerging technologies. An expanding ecosystem that combines competitiveness, training, and technological dissemination with real social impact.
